Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Kharch Log (“the App”) is a personal expense-tracking Android application. This policy explains what information the App uses and how it is handled.
2. Data we process
- Google account email — used only to sign you in and connect to your Google Drive/Sheets.
- Expense data you enter — amounts, categories, payment modes, comments, person name, salary keyword.
- SMS content (optional) — if you grant SMS permission, the App reads new bank/UPI messages on your device to detect amounts. SMS text is not uploaded to our servers; relevant details may be saved into your Google Sheet.
- Google Drive / Sheets files created by the App — a folder named “Kharch Log” and a spreadsheet inside it, used to store your expenses.
3. How Google access works
The App requests the limited Google Drive scope
drive.file (“See, edit, create, and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this app”).
It creates and manages its own Kharch Log folder/sheet. It is not intended to browse or modify unrelated files in your Drive.
4. Where data is stored
- Expense rows are stored in your Google Sheet under your Google account.
- Small local preferences (e.g. signed-in email, linked sheet id, profile fields) are stored on your device.
- We do not operate a Kharch Log backend that collects or sells your expense data.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Data is shared with Google only as needed to provide Sign-In and Sheets/Drive features you enable. Anyone you share your Google Sheet with can see those rows.
6. Permissions
- SMS — optional; for auto-detecting transactions. You can deny or revoke it and still use manual entry.
- Battery / restricted settings — optional; helps SMS detection stay reliable on some phones.
- Internet — required for Google Sign-In and sheet sync.
7. Retention & deletion
Uninstalling the App removes local preferences on the device. Your Google Sheet and Drive folder remain in your Google account until you delete them. You can sign out in the App and revoke access anytime at Google Account → Third-party access.
8. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
